In 2020 we decided to convert the old forge wood store into a very small but functional pottery. We had to raise the roof and put new windows in so that we could dry the pots more effectively. Then we had to lay on lots of power (40 amps) for the new kiln and create a safe working space with ventilation.
We collect rain water to throw our pots as there's no mains water and we dry the thrown ware on the roof which lies at a perfect angle for the sun (and wind!) to do its job. Pots have been made like this for 5000 years, starting in Mesopotamia.
Only when we're confident you'll love our pots do they get the Forge Pottery seal of approval, the anvil mark. The village forge was in operation from 1600 to 1939 and in 1990 was converted into a domestic building, Forge Cottage. Since we've replaced one type of firing with another we feel right at home.
